Shane Fox PII partners enjoying the tour of Heidelberg The meeting was well attended by the partners of PII and during the three days the following major items were presented and discussed: • Tutorial on the IaaS Framework presented by Mathieu Lemay (CEO Inocybe Technologies) • Meetings of the individual work packages (WP1, WP2, WP3 and WP4) to report on the work done, address issues and plan future work. • Joint work package meetings between WP1/WP4, WP2/WP3 and WP2/WP4 to coordinate the efforts of these work packages. Integration meetings were planned for WP2 and WP3 and the next plenary meeting was scheduled for June to be located in Madrid. This very important meeting was a follow up to the inital architectural meeting with its aim to consolidate the PII architecture and definition of the entities required for 3rd party testsites and clusters. It was a productive meeting with all wp2 partners participating. This intensive architectural meeting then continued in Paris , with various aspects of PII WP3 up for discussion on the agenda. Here the meeting was hosted at Orange Labs premises on the 11th and 12th of november. The main outcome of this meeting was to prioritise and clarify exact details for development of the teagle tool having researched the current state of art technologies that could be used in the development phase. vnguyen The ultimate objective of PII is to develop and deploy the necessary mechanisms and technologies to enable a functioning federation of existing testbeds for the added benefit of the users of the existing local testbeds, and to prove that federation is a model for the establishment of a long-term sustainable large scale and diverse testing infrastructure for(tele-) communications technologies, services and applications in Europe. The testbed federation includes four core innovation clusters and three satellite clusters, with TSSG being one of the main satellite clusters in the project. PII will develop and deploy effective mechanisms and technologies to enable a functioning federation of existing testbeds. This will provide added value to users of existing local testbeds, and it will prove that federation is a model for the establishment of a long-term sustainable, large-scale and diverse testing infrastructure for (tele-)communications technologies, services and applications in Europe. In particular PII will: - Develop mechanisms and tools to describe, store, locate and orchestrate testing services as well as means to automatically provide composite testbeds across multiple administrative domains. - Develop and elaborate mechanisms to combine and accommodate future clean-slate approaches and provide testing services in a network-agnostic manner. - Define a common abstract control framework, which enables the interconnection of diverse testbeds. - Establish trust across the federation by means of quality assurance processes and tools. - ntegrate the concept of User Driven Innovation. - Execute a techno-socio-economic study to assess the long-term sustainability of the federation model. PII’s testbed federation infrastructure will build on the legal, operational, and technical framework developed by the Panlab SSA in FP6. The 20 partners constitute a highly competent, well-balanced consortium of SMEs, associations, academic institutions as well as large manufacturers and network operators, who will mobilise the critical mass at European level to achieve the project objectives.
